How do I set a timer for 10 minutes using this tool?
οΌ
Click the 10 min Quick Timer button at the top of the page, then press Start. Alternatively, type 0 in the Hours field, 10 in the Minutes field, and 0 in the Seconds field, then press Start. The countdown begins immediately.
Can I create a countdown timer for more than 1 hour?
οΌ
Yes. Enter the number of hours (up to 23) in the Hours field, then set minutes and seconds as needed. For example, type 2, 30, 0 to create a 2.5-hour countdown. There is no upper limit beyond 23:59:59.
Does the timer work if I switch browser tabs?
οΌ
The countdown continues running in the background on most browsers. However, some browsers throttle background tab JavaScript, especially on mobile, to save battery. For best results, keep the tab active or use the pinned-tab tip above. The audio alarm fires when the timer reaches zero as long as the tab is loaded.
Is this better than saying "Google, set a timer for 5 minutes"?
οΌ
Both work, but they serve different needs. Google's voice timer is fast when you just need a quick kitchen countdown on your phone. This online timer is better for desktop use, classroom display, Pomodoro sequences, or when you want a large visible countdown without navigating away from your workflow. It also works on every platform β including Mac, where there is no native countdown timer app built into the OS.
How do I set a timer on Mac using this site?
οΌ
macOS does not include a built-in countdown timer the way Windows 10 and Windows 11 do (via the Clock app). To set a timer on Mac, open this page in Safari, Chrome, or Firefox, enter your desired duration, and click Start. For a permanent shortcut, use Safari's "Add to Dock" feature or Chrome's "Create Shortcut" to put the timer one click away.
What is the difference between a timer and a stopwatch?
οΌ
A countdown timer starts at a set duration and counts down to zero, alerting you when the time is up β ideal for deadlines, cooking, and study sessions. A stopwatch starts at zero and counts up, measuring elapsed time β ideal for tracking how long something takes. EzyToolbox offers both: use the Stopwatch for elapsed time and this Timer for countdown.
Does this timer work on iPhone and iPad?
οΌ
Yes. The timer is fully responsive and works in Safari on iPhone and iPad. While iOS restricts certain background audio, the countdown and alarm function correctly as long as your browser tab stays visible. For home-screen access, tap the Share icon in Safari and choose Add to Home Screen to create a shortcut that opens exactly like a timer app for iPhone.
Is there a countdown widget I can embed on my site?
οΌ
A standalone embeddable countdown widget is on our roadmap. In the meantime, you can link directly to this page from any website or document. Students and teachers can bookmark it as a classroom resource, and teams can paste the URL into Slack, Notion, or their LMS for quick group access.
